Google's new VP8-based image format could replace JPEG
Do you think this will really supplant JPEG as the standard for lossy bitmap graphics compression?
What do you think of Google's new image format?

It depends on how hard it will be to implement, both for viewing in web pages and creating the files with editors.

Google has been relatively successful so far, I find no reason to doubt this new image format will be good, stable, and efficient. I could, of course, be wrong.

Especially with the cost of bandwidth in a majority of specialized infrastructures today a better format would be most welcomed. A "big company" is all that we needed, to put out the format and advertise it. Theora formats were lucky to be included as an HTML5 spec, it's good to see another one come into the mix.

Wow, never thought of new image formats... It is a great idea.
PS. Is Chrome OS a good system? I think of switching to linux, any recommendations for an OS I might like?

Chrome OS is a minimalistic OS that is stripped of everything except for the Chrome browser and a media player, which means it does everything online. It's an attempt by Google to make the next giant step forward in the move towards cloud computing. It's good to have on a netbook that you want to carry around with you so you can stop and check your email or Facebook when you're on the run, for instance. But it's not a fully functional OS. If it's Linux itself you're interested in, I would suggest using one of the mainstream distros like Ubuntu, Debian, or Mandriva.

Please, write clearly with proper structure. Double spacing makes the text feel un-jointed, Capitalizing Every Word Means People Stop Before Every Word Sub-Consciously Which Is A Pain In The Backside, and use code tags! (The right most styling box).
