Hi i've just finished college, with a light knowledge of software development.
During the two years I was enrolled for I was only taught very light programming techniques (Pascal and some Visual Basic).
I think that I would like to start developing games, but I'm not sure what to do next. I've gathered that C++ is a useful language for game development (through multiple Google searches), but I also read that it's not the best language to start with.
Please help I'm in a pretty big jam at the moment.

You can get Visual Studio Express for free, and join/use XNA for your games. There are a lot of tutorials on the site that should help you.

You can always just dive into C++. It's not as gentle as Pascal/VB, but you'll learn a LOT.

I use C++ (Visual C++ Express Edition 2008 as my IDE) for game development. The game development kit I use is called the Dark GDK. It's great for beginners in both C++ and game development. I hope I was able to help :)
My Personal Blog l Learning C++ l I'll be famous soon enough.
