Can this chat allow us to talk to others without connecting to a social networking site? I tried chatting but it says I can't unless I'm connected. ;s

Yeah that would be nice; but doubtfully supports it (for many reasons)

All new problems require investigation, and so if errors are problems, try to learn as much as you can and report back.

I agree.. if people can connect with any name, then this whole chat idea will not be a good idea.. at least not on CC.

Personally for me I'd rather not need to sign up for a social network to chat, many people (especially less regulars) most likely wouldn't have such a thing. You sure there's something maybe a bit more VBulletin-integrated (an addon?) or another solution?

Yeah I agree with Nullw0rm, I would never sign up my personal social networking sites to a chat site or allow others that I don't know personally to see my social networking pages.
I'd prefer it if we could just go on and have general chat with other members without the social networking mumbo jumbo.
That's just me though.

What about using the accepted friends as a filter?

Great work Roger! I knew you would jump into implementing the new feature. Your just so fast :) My only suggestion would be adding Google as one of the networks. I'm not very much into all of those things so I really only have a Google account (old yahoo account and old twitter account. Neither of which I use.) If thats not possible I could always just make a yahoo account for the soul purpose of chatting :D that would be fine. Anyhow... Loving the new feature!

EDIT: Also just being able to chat using only CC account would also be nice

After thinking about this for a bit, it might be better just to have the chatting offline (via MSN, YM, etc.)... the idea of hosting more stuff (and managing/securing, etc.) is a bit daunting for me right now.. unless someone (a mod) wants to host a subdomain (ie. chat.codecall.net) site for the members...

What kind of code brain damage is this?

not a mention of jabber in post one?

jabber is a protocol, not a network, per se. Google chat, for example, is jabber.
