Your trying to shrink a partition that is currently being used.

Try finding a program you can reboot into.

It's impossible to resize a drive from that drive.

Maybe you can the following way:
1.right-click unallocated space on the basic disk where you want to create the partition, and then click New Partition.2.Click the type of partition that you want to create and then click Next. 3.Specify the size of the partition in the Partition size in MB box, and then click Next. 4.Confirm that the options that selected are correct, and then click Finish.

I tried it, and got this:

after this, it said: "Querying volume for availible shrink space. Please wait." and then it gave me the option above.

...so, I can do it, but then again, it showed my C: as being a basic drive. This is something I found that gave me more information about the differences between Basic and Dynamic disks.

What does yours say in the Disk Management here:

Basic, or Dynamic? I've not got much experience with Dynamic disks...
I'll ask a lot of questions (most of them probably stupid stuff). Bear with me, i'm still learning! ^_^ Also, I'll try to answer as many questions as I can as well, but I'm not very good yet. I'm sure I'll be of more use once I get better :)

Use GParted. GParted -- Welcome

Burn, and boot into the livecd. Partition your disk there. Also, do not forget to backup your data.
