Good evening everyone. This is part introduction, and part request for some direction. My name is Phillip, and I work for the local cable company doing (mostly tedious) data entry. I've been writing PHP & ASP scripts for years. I've always wanted to break into other platforms but never had a reason to do so before.
At my work we have platform called ICOMS, it manages pretty much everything on our customers and I constantly need to pull data from it. The problem is, the way it is written, I cannot simply copy and paste. So I find my self typing out long ticket numbers, several times a work order, hundreds of times a day. It's killing my wrists, and I'm too the point where I'm willing to invest the time to do something about it. I have permission from my manager to try write a program to simplify the process and it would be my chance to move up in the company. So I have plenty of motive.
What I need to be able to do, is write a program that can pull data out of ICOMS, and then populate several other web base pages for inquires. I would also have to inject data back into ICOMs. And I would like to create a GUI to better display relevant data and offer one click solutions for common system based actions. I figured this would require some kind of memory reading. I have used Cheat engine extensively in the past, so I have a good jist of the basics there. I simply don't know where I should begin. I know very little about C, VB, or any other software based platform. What would be the easiest to pick up, and would work best for what I'm trying to achieve? Any good resources to get started?
Thanks for reading and any input you may offer.
