Hey yall,

I have a lot of space on my monitor so I like to have sevral apps being displayed at the same time

like this:

(depending on the people I'm talking to i may have two more panes of YIM displayed on the right of the two main softwares)

But keeping them organized like that while trying to do work is a pain. I was wondering if there was any free software out there that sets on the desktop and lets you open external apps in it and keep them nice and tidy by having panes for each app you want to open? I know its not a BIG problem but its enough to annoy me.

Most linux versions come with multiple desktops...

I think a "container" you could put files in would be amazing, but would probably make them all run as one program causing a lag if you put multiple big programs in t he same one... eg dreamweaver and photoshop.

Here is a multiple desktop thing you can try and use:
Add multiple desktops to Vista and XP with the Vista/XP Virtual Desktop Manager | Microsoft Windows | TechRepublic.com

Are you using 7 or vista?

Hmm, you know i did not even stop to consider the lag that it would cause. I do like the multiple desktop app thanks for sharing. I was actually looking at cubed desktop for windows today so that i could have multiple desktops but it cost more than i have at the moment, this is a good alternative sense all i cared about was the multiple desktops. Seems to be working great (at least during the ten minutes or so i have been playing with it) .

Win7

Edit: Hey Blane off the top of your head; do you know if it is possible to set an application so that it stays up no matter which desktop you switch to? If you don't already know don't bother looking it up I can do that just don't want to look through all the discussions if you already know.

Edit: It crashes when i run software i actually need. I found a free cube software that I am going to try out as soon as i figure out how to uninstall this (its not on the uninstall list (>,<) ---- its gone now

The term is "workspaces" not desktops, and they should not lag at all. Cubes are ugly IMO, what definitely turns me off of ubuntu x compiz.

PS: nice HTML skillz

Workspace, desktop same thing. define: desktop - Google Search

I like the cube, its not lagging at all and is keeping everything organized. It is rather small so no resource drain.

P.S - It's not HTML, I don't think this forum allows HTML.
