i was wondering was it illeagle to sell things you got free for money cause somone told me it was

Depends on what it is. T-shirts, no. Programs released under the GNU General Public License, yes. Depends on the license it was released with.

Yes, if you're getting copyrighted material say from a company giving free products, they'd often have a disclaimer stating that you're not allowed to sell any of their products without express permission, although the laws very country to country (state to state).

In general, no, it's not illegal. There are exceptions, of course.

I dont think it is ilegal because put it this way.Someone gives you a book that you are not interested in and you want to sell it on ebay for 20 bucks.How ilegal can that be?But with software it might be if it is copy-righted since you can sell same software/ebook 1000 times to 1000 different people thus damaging the company for tens of thousands of dollars.
Edit:Also if you download some free software that is hardly found you can sell it tho unless people manage to find it for free like you.
