Windows Vista is a bloated sluggish beast. Windows 7 is almost as responsive as XP.

Interesting. I have 2 computers: one with XP and one (laptop) with Vista. The one with XP is much less responsive than the one with Vista. I really can't see any problems with Vista's responsiveness.

Well JCoder, you should consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

I usually disagree with JCoder, but here I am compelled to agree. I never noticed Vista being any less responsive than XP. It's not a perfect OS, but neither was XP. I've yet to try 7, so I can't respond on how much better it is.

Are you comparing them on identical hardware? I've seen vista on 512MB of RAM, and XP on the same. There's a HUGE difference.

No, of course not. But it doesn't make sense to compare a new OS to an old OS on the same hardware. It depends on the needs. I found XP on 256 MB of RAM to be incredibly slow, but that doesn't say anything about their quality. Is vi better than Office because it can run on nothing and Office requires more memory?

It depends on your needs. Unfortunately, I've not been impressed with the new "features" in Vista/7.

Besides Aero and constantly asking for permission to run things, what were Vista's new features? It's been a while since I used XP, and I haven't touched Vista at all for a couple weeks now.

Vista is evil. I disabled the UAC and it still keeps asking me for permission to do stuff. The more security updates it installs, the slower it gets. As it is, it takes about 30 seconds to load Firefox, with a defragged and cleaned hard drive. I keep the registry as clean as I can, too. That's another thing I hate about Windows--the registry. Gets trashed and full of trash too easily.
