I have never used an i7, but they are supposed to be very high-end. So that is actually a really good chip.

Heh, you may really want to go the I5/I3 route if you want more battery life.

Brilliantly fast
With faster, intelligent, multi-core technology that applies processing power where it's needed most, Intel® Core™ i7 processors deliver an incredible breakthrough in PC performance. They are the best desktop processor family on the planet¹.

You'll multitask applications faster and unleash incredible digital media creation. And you'll experience maximum performance for everything you do, thanks to the combination of Intel® Turbo Boost technology² and Intel® Hyper-Threading technology (Intel® HT technology)³, which maximizes performance to match your workload.

I think that processor is good. Because of following reasons.

Quote

3.06 GHz, 2.93 GHz, and 2.66 GHz core speed
8 processing threads with Intel® HT technology
8 MB of Intel® Smart Cache
3 Channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory

A week after I built a gaming PC, an i7/X42 bundle was released that was cheaper than my whole system, I know how you feel.

The core I7 is a brilliant chip, but... 2.26 GHz is not very big. I'm currently running an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Processor (Black Edition) an mine runs at 3.40 GHz

Might I say you're extremely lucky, extremely decent.
