Start with what you want to do: Are you looking for a gaming laptop, a coding laptop, something else?

I do coding and gaming on a single core laptop. Compile times tend to depend more on CPU speed than number of cores.

I use this: Vostro V13 Laptop | Dell Linux, no upgrades.

Can't say I have a favorite. Laptops are always a bitch because of their internal structuring, but Dell in general has been a let down. My gf is getting another computer soon, not sure on what we'll decide for her.

On a side note, I have friends and family who are happy with their Qosimo laptops. They do look cooler than these flimsy Inspirons.

I have one tip for you ( if you haven't bought the laptop yet): don't buy an ASUS. Very fragile. I have a Toshiba too, long before asus and it is like a new one, after 3 years.
