I have a PS2 controller and usb converter, Vista recognizes it and it works comletely but the games i bought it for don't even have a 'hotkey', 'joystick', or 'controller' tab in it...

My question: In theory, is there a way to write a program that recognizes the PS2 controller as the keyboard/mouse interface? In simpler terms, I push L2, computer recognises that i pushed 'shift', directional pad(or left thumbstick) to direct the mouse. If this is possible, the bottons might be different, depending on game.

From what I found there's not much on there, unless the adapter has a specific driver (which I can't find online), I know a PS3 controller would fit perfectly, I have done it many times but not PS2. The games simply don't see a joystick there, can you see the controller just via joystick configuration?

I'll get a PS3 controller once i can afford it if this doesn't work... Civilizations 4, torchlight and Arcuz are the games that i am trying to get it to work for. Civ4 and Torchlight don't have a joystick tab. Arcuz is a flash-based wed game. Windows recognises it, but they don't.

Are you one hundred percent sure the adapter did not come with a driver? What the driver's job is, is to provide the system with details of the joystick device of which it can use. If the driver is successful, the system should very well see it as a standard joystick with two analogue axis controls and X amount of buttons, you simply need a compatable driver for those specialized games to even think it's a joystick, you may be out of luck here.

The PS3 uses USB by standard and only requires one driver (if any with libUSB), so it may just be your best choice if you cannot get that to work.

It came with a driver disc, but civ4 and torchlight neither one recognize joysticks. They only recognise certain keys on the keyboard and the mouse. The idea i was having was to see if it was possible for one to write a program, or direct me to one that will, to allow the ps2 controller to push certain bottons.
