Hi, I have been reading the forum alot and many people seem to have their own small websites for business or just a hobby. I am planning on launching a website of my own but I was wondering about how exactly do you earn revenue from it? Is it simply google adsence (image, text and link ads / in-text ads) type of code or am I missing something else?

Also if you have any information about how much traffic generates what profit (i know it can be a very wide range) it would be greatly appreciated. If you own a website and do not mind telling how much you earn with it and through which means feel free to share the information. I am just looking for some examples I can relate to or at least aim for.

Thanks in advance.

I will refrain from telling you the subject, but an ad-hoc turn-key-advertising site I once owned got me roughly $100/month in Adsense. I don't think i'd work as hard to get it again.

If you wish to generate profit, and have (quality) content then you're not too far away from being able to make more than 0.02c/click. You must write top keywords in your content, title, etc. for the ads being displayed to target onto anything worth money. Search "top keyword lists" and look for some ideas relating to the site you wish to build. Anything from content in <h1's> to alt tags (a little less) will feed the ad targetting information.

PPC = pay per click, which may be your only income for awhile. If a user goes to your site, and actually looks around (being exposed to more than one ad) a click from them may be worth slightly more than just a fly-by clicker. Some ads are special, and are only worth money if someone buys something when they click on the ad.

If your site cators to a small subject, donations may get you more in the long run (just an option).

Banner ads are nice, inline text links are atrocious in my opinion and i'd rather lose the $20/mo than have profit, so make it look clean. Regardless you'll need a fair traffic base with a nice conversion ratio to get anything big, Google only pays in bulk (such as when you reach $100), so it might take a few months each time.

It depends what kind of site you are starting, but there is many ways to make money. You see all those streaming tv and movie sites, most of them make money by CPA and other ads. Which is Cost per Action, usually surveys and what not that need to be completed to earn access to the site. There are sites that pay per download as well if you have downloads to offer. Its all advertisement.
