Hi,

My objective is to make a portable media player like vlc but it wont need all the fancey features, just the codecs built in to play the majority of media types. (Cross platform would also be good because I use win, mac and ubuntu)

I only have experiance with windows scripting - using autoit.

I dont learn well by reading books, im more of a follow the steps guy but the info generally sticks after that.

I dont know what language is best for this project but because its a fersh area for me, im open to anything.

I have read multiple tutorials on the net but they all dont seem 2 cover exactly what i want. And because they all seem to do things differently - nothing is sticking because I cant make sense of what and why.

If anyone knows or have made a media player from scratch and has documented the steps or made a tutorial i can follow i think this would be best.

I know I can just use vlc but thats no fun. And I know there are plenty of open source projects I can start with but because I am not familiar with any other languages I wouldnt really know where to start, or what im even looking at.

If anyone has any ideas or sugestions, I will be very greatful.
