Is this a good deal and will it have enough power?
Right now I have a Gateway laptop, with a Intel Centrino Core Duo Processor, 4GB RAM, 320GB hard drive. The computer Im looking at is a Gateway desktop with, Intel Core i3 530 Processor, 1TB hard drive, 6GB RAM, and 20" monitor, for $646. What I want to know is is this a good deal and what Im looking for? I know there's enough RAM because I only use about 3GB on my laptop, but I burn up the processors on my laptop pretty easily, so is i3 going to be enough? I usualy have maybe two Visual Studeo's open, FF with like 5-10 tabs, and maybe something like Gimp or a couple folders open.
Thanks, guys! :)

A man can be defined by what he does when no one is looking.

If you really want it then
go for it
Desktop Computer is much more capable than Laptops.
though 6GB of RAM is pretty weird, I never seen a 6 GB of RAM. but, if it's 4+2, then, make sure they have exactly the same frequency, or it won't work.
One more thing,
if you installed 32bit OS, then
the 2GB can't be used as 32bit OS maximum amount of ram is 4GB, you have to use 64bit OS and make sure the hardware support it.
end if
hth:)
goto PS
end if
PS: I think 1GB of RAM is more than enough just for 2 Visual Studio + FF + Gimp + Couple Folder :)

I just don't want spend $650 on a computer to find out it's not much more powerful than my laptop and can't work easily. ;)

True, ram must have the same frequency. That's why very very often you get computers/notebooks with 1, 2 ,4, 8 gygs of ram. Then they've put 2x512MB, 2x1gyg,, etc inside it. 2x the same ram stick will work just fine. 3gyg ram sticks don't exist( i think) so to reach your 6gygs, it must be 4+2. Because they are not the same sticks, there is a slight chance they won't work well together. But i suppose the place where you buy it from knows what they're doing ;)
Edit: After a bit of research i must agree that the 6 gigabyte isn't as uncommon as i thought.

I just want to know if the processor is going to have enough power.

Unfortunately since they started using dual cores and more i totally lost it which processor is better :(
Concidering it's listed here PassMark CPU Lookup , i suppose it's not a bad one ;)
It seems to be low on the list but note that it's listed in the High End CPUs (they also have a high mid range, low midrange and low end list)
