This thread is kinda me venting how psyched I am.
So I am currently in grade 11 and have been programming for a few months. I am also taking a high school coarse called CP 12. Yesterday I competed at Saint Mary's University (Halifax Nova Scotia) in a high school programming competition. Their were 15 teams of two, and me working on my own.
I ended up placing third (just though, I was a minute off of second). I got a some cool stuff though. I used java in the competition but I won roughly 150$ in books on C++ (yay), some clothes, a mug shaped like a beaker, and a 500$ scholarship. Its not much but i'm going to compete next year and hopefully get first :P
The awesome part though, is after, one of the head professors of the faculty of mathematics and computer science talked to me about next year. He said he could talk to the dean and I could take another free block in grade twelve that way I could get a computer science credit at university. I don't plan to go to this university but I could get several university credits in my grade twelve year and get that much closer to getting a masters of computer engineering.
I am psyched :P
P.S. - If you want I could post another thread with all the problems so you all could try to solve them and post your answers. If you want.
Programming is Awesome !!

Sounds awesome! I am going to Seneca College in Toronto for Computer Programming come September. I can't wait!!! Congrats on placing third. Seems like you know you're Java :)

Congratulations on your achievement :) Its always nice to see young people such as yourself who are ambitious and willing to put the time in to study. I was a professional c/c++ programmer for about 25 years before I retired, and never lost my enthusasm for it.
And please do post a few of the questions for us to work on ourselves.

Congrats, what did you have to do for the competition? And why were you alone :crying:

I was alone because my partner bailed on me the day before. Her loss though, but it would have been cool to have a girl compete. I don't think she is as into it as i am though.
I will post the problems, the first three are rather easy though they start to get harder. I will make another thread for the answers though because I'd like to compare my answers to others though I don't want to see any spoilers. They get kind of long though so I'll put them up this weekend when I have some free time.
