Hello All,

I was wondering if a Proxy (dedicated server here-say the Dell PowerEdge) could be linked to all the computers in the house and if so, would it interfere with internet?

I don't won't filtering, I have a Security software and firewall for that, I want to hide all the IP's behind the proxy.

Any advice would be great.

Ummm... before you do that, go to a site like What's My IP Address? Networking Tools & More from each computer. You may find that they all appear to be the same.

I checked and mine was different from the others. Would a proxy be able to stop an attack? (Like a DoS attack or anyother attack).

DoS is NOT going to be stopped by a proxy.

A proxy can control what ports/addresses can be visited in both directions.

It usually is used to control what YOU can do, rather than what others can do to you.

You could stop DOS by disabling the ability to "ping" computers. I have seen many sites that do it. Althrough their are ways around it. OR you can make the PowerEdge reply to all pings. THen if you get dossed the poweredge will go down (it will only have the proxy stuff on it) and if set up correctly kill the internet to the other PC's stopping the DOS from damaging your servers.
