Ok im just wondering if there are any software applications for linux to use windows software.
I've tried WINE and found it really buggy for most windows applications.
I've heard crossoverlinux is quite good though i've not tried it yet.
I'm just wondering if there are any other programs out there that might be worth a try.
Windows / Linux cross over software

Wine is the only free one, short of a VM.

I've been experimenting with VM software, including VMware and win4lin, as well as Sunbox they all seem to be quite useful but the cross over is still a little tricky to get right especially with finding windows drivers that will work on the cross over. In the mean time though i have also been doing some more serious testing with wine as well as setting up my package recource locations to include the wine project as well. I must admit it is still a little buggy, by graphic rendering appears to be not as big a problem as it once was. I am running a lot of games through wine that didn't work with 1.0, now i think its 1.1.4* now and they appear to be fixing a lot of the bugs. I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome of the project in the next few years. It is looking a little more promising these days.

I don't think that this is worthy.... I mean we have linux os and windows os... Trying to pass apps from the one to the other definitely will have problems due to the different architecture of these os...You could use some apps through Virtual Machines if you are a windows addicted for some apps...But let's try to seperate this two os and not mixing them with the try of transfering apps...
Post the apps you want to run at linux and as well the dist tha you use...if there is a ready app doing the same work fine else maybe it would be a nice project to make something new for linux platform ^^

Certainly there is always going to be huge problems with crossing over apps from one to the other, as you said, they are completely different architecture of programs. The only thing preventing me from abandoning windows all-together is gaming, I suppose it is a common perspective and I heard the same thing all the time from people i'm studying along side.
Hey it would be a great project to work on, I know wine is done in C, I'm fairly competent with C as well, though probably don't know enough to be able to write such a big project at this stage.

My point was not to throw away windows....I am triple booted between windows 7 ubuntu 10.04 and FreeBsd 8.0...My point is to use as much as we can each os for the work in which is best... you know the strenght of each one os . . . .

Don't be afraid from the length....Wine is a simply idea...Imagine in c a function which takes arguments (type mplampla.exe) and making somewhere a directory....as the exe running you redirecting the install directory of the exe to the one that you create...Easy haa??
It is not so easy as implementation but it is easy to catch it :thumbup1::thumbup1::thumbup1:
