I am planning to get a new laptop to use for my C++ programming course and would like to know what brand and display size you would recommend.

This is purely a matter of personal preference, really. Unless you're doing hard-core graphics programming, you don't need a new laptop (unless you don't have one to begin with). Personally, I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, and it's more than adequate.
