Why would you do this in VB6? If you want to make a quality one quickly, you'll certainly want the features in .NET? How else are you going to the easy reporting features? Also, you better make sure you have a good database backend for your project. I'm guessing you want to use SQL Server 2008, but remember that the schools you'll be selling this to may have older versions of SQL Server. There's a lot involved in these decisions.
