Hello, i'm new to these forums and to programming. I already know something about computers (tho most of it being hardware), but i know next to nothing about codings.

As a hobby i want to know how to program so i can make my own games (not talking about those webbrowser games either, tho i know i'd be doing those at some point). My only issue is i have no idea which language i need to start out with and what books are worth buying to learn it.
I've already done a little research but everything i have found doesnt help me in decide which one to go for. And obviously, there are tons of books out there, i just cant tell which are worth it for beginners.

Reasons?
I am military, and i deploy alot. As a result i am stuck with crappy internet (like right now) and unless i deploy to one location in particular, without my console games too. That leaves me to my laptop. I figured it would be awesome to know how to make my own games, since i'd have nothing else to do.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Making games is a LONG path. You may want to try Java, Lazarus, or a .NET language as your fastest route to graphics. Which book to get depends a LOT on the language.

i'd probably do Java then since i already know atleast the general idea of it.
I know its a long and tedious path, but like i said i get a ton of free time because when im not on duty, i just sit on my butt all day wishing i had something to do.
Know any good downloadable/printed java script books?
