I'm really not sure where the best place is to post this.

I've used 4 hosts ove rthe past few years. My current one has been good in a lot of ways, however:

1. it only inclued 1GB of disc space. i've heard hosts offering unlimited are usually ones to avoid as they then disable sites when they do use much space. I am not using close to the 1 GB anyway, but if I ever get my sites active it would be a low limit where I couldn't allow members to upload many files to the forum!

2. i got it at half price for the first year so that was only $55 for a year and thus part of why I bought it. Now it's about to rebill at $110+. That may not sound bad, but considering it has strict limits compared to other sites with lower prices it's expensive. My sites are DEAD. I sure am not going to spend over $100 to just have it sit there and I'm not going to stop using the site either, so I ened to find something cheaper or at least have more space allotment.

So I'm seeing if anyone here knows of some hosts which would have good eprformance and be inexpensive. Last time I asked this on a webhosting discussion forum and I simply got all of these no-name companies saying theirs was the ebst and yet nobody had heard of them. I want a legit company as a host.

I need php 5.2+, mysql 5.0+, at least 1 or 2 other sites to be hosted on it (so 2 or 3 total), and at least 3 databases (mysql).

Hey Basher, I've moved your thread to the hosting section.

John and I use to own a hosting business. We sold it to Justin (phpforfun). He offers discounts to CodeCall users: AmpHosted - Hosting solutions! [Unmetered Hosting, Unlimited Hosting, Shared Hosting, Virtual Hosting, VPS hosting, Reseller Hosting, Semi-Dedicated Hosting, FFMPEG Hosting, Video Hosting, Video Sharing, File Sharing.]

He also has a "Make your own" hosting service where you pick the features and name the price. I believe he also had $1 hosting.

I see one site states that if you sign up for host gator through their link they give you $50 rebate in 2-3 months. i wodner if that's legit.

One problem though is with these unlimited space/bandwidth hosts I'm betting there is much mroe chance of bad performance as people are less restricted so they can cause problems easier.

I would have to check to see their php and mysql versions and go through a hassle changing over and then would save a little for it if I did though and have the unlimited space.

Oh also my past two hosts used something for security where absically you don't chmid your folders to 777 and they will act like 777 at 755, but I forgetw hat the name is. If they don't use whatever that is then I'm sure I will have problems with a lot of things which aren't at 777.

I've had a good experience with LiquidWeb, there support is amazing, I could request a telephone call 24/7 and within 2 minutes they'd call my mobile (once I did this at 3am GMT 0, and an australian tech guy called! lol).

Though the only down side is that there not the cheapest esp if your looking for a VPS or below. They offer good value for largers sites eg. Dedicated Hosting and more.

I would strictly recommend you to stay away from the UNLIMITED disk space and bandwidth providers. Unlimited is not possible in any aspect of life and there is nothing without limits. Unlimited is not possible because bandwidth is a commodity that someone needs to pay for eventually. The term unlimited is only a marketing strategy used by the hosting providers to attract newbies and sometimes even a pro. Go through the TOS of companies offering unlimited space or bandwidth and you will find some restrictions after all nothing in the world is unlimited.

Yeah I've always heard stay away from unlimited, but thus far I am on host gator and it's been good thus far. I'm only paying monthly where I can switch elsewhere easily if I ened to. The problem is most hosts are either unlimited or very low limits such as 1GB. I personally would rather get hosting where there is something like 10-20GB limit where you know you don't have to worry about it for a long time and then also hopefully it's more controlled that way where it's fast more often due to them not overloading servers since they have limits and can more easily track them. But of course they may still try to overload them then too.

We can help you. Our packages can be upgraded as you wish, and in a matter of minutes (if you use paypal). You just order whatever space and bandwidth you need.

Our servers have very good performance. We also provide quite good prices (we're not the cheapest, but we try to deliver good services at a reasonable price).

Don't forget to read as much as possible customer hosting reviews in order to be sure that you will have reliable and stable hosting services.
