Is there a way to control a flash movie through code?

My company utilizes an online database via a third party to organize our business. Originally, the database was purely html and javascript and using Visual Basic you could make changes by navigating to particular web addresses using have visual click html buttons. The 3rd party is now upgrading their software and the entire site will essentially be a flash movie. Is there anyway I can click buttons in a flash movie from a program i write? I'm really just trying to put this together for work and I'm not very experienced in many programming languages outside of visual basic so I'm not even sure if one languange would be preferable over another. Please keep in mind, I have nothing to do with the creation of the flash movie and don't have anyway to change the movie itself. I hope this is clear.
