Hi everyone,
My name is Chris, just thought I would stop by and introduce myself, as I have been reading articles/posts on this site for quite a while now! :)
I'm just about to turn 19, so am a fairly new programmer! I've worked on small projects for school/college and am self taught outside of that, experimenting with different languages and finding out what I like the best! I am a bit of a .NET fanboy to be honest :) I think it's a great environment and very helpful to us programmers trying to get a foothold!
I've done a fair amount of web development, and enjoy the back-end coding most of all! I have taken a year out before going to uni to try and get a better grasp of more concepts and hopefully get some small-time programming work up until then.. then next year I shall be starting a SEng Course at Aberystwyth (UK).
Everyone here seems nice and friendly, and I know I will stick around, as there are just so many great things to help me out here!
So yeah.. - Hi! :)

Hi,
Glad to have you on board. Are you from Wales or are you just going there for uni?
My brother went to Aberystwyth for his maths degree. We used to go there on holiday with our parents before that so I knew the town fairly well.

If there's a new way, I'll be the first in line.
But, it better work this time.

Thanks everyone :)
It's a really nice place to go I think! I'm not from Wales no, I'm about 2 hours away in the 'England direction', right on the border. But people have told me it's a great place to study, it being such a touristy town, it practically closes down in the winter and becomes a student town! :-)
...that and it has apparently the best pub/person ratio in the country!:thumbup1:

Where abouts are you from then? I'm right on the Cheshire/Derbyshire border just outside Stockport.

I did hear somewhere that Bristol is the true holder of the title, but I don't think anyone has really studied it that closely.
If there's a new way, I'll be the first in line.

I'm actually just on the Shropshire border, sort of in the middle of nowhere really! 30 mins ish the other side of Wrexham.
I originally lived around the Cheshire area though, in Macclesfield. I really liked it up there!
So that means you are not to far away from your Uni then does it? (Although my geography is pretty horrible). What are you studying there?

Every university town claims that. I heard it about Lancaster before I started there.

Well in fairness to them, I think they were talking Wales only... but you are right, they probably all use it. Suppose they must think it's a good selling point to a load of students... :-)

I've a few friends in Macc. Doubt you'd know any of them though if you've not lived there for a while.

Unfortunately, my uni days are behind me. I graduated in 2004 with a masters in pure maths.
I'm not too far from Lancaster. Maybe 1hr 30m on a good run. The key is to miss the rush hour in Stockport :)
Unfortunately my parents live further away from Lancaster than I do now so it was a slightly longer trip to go home for the holidays.

Probably not, I moved away when I was 3, so really only know it as I went back to visit family etc. as I got older!

Ah, sorry. Jumped to conclusions! Yeah, I imagine the rush hour can get you stuck forever around the roads up there. It's bad enough in the small towns around here!
What do you do now then? Do you work in Programming, or something else Maths related? The thought of a Masters in maths scares me, just finished my Maths A-Level, and I found that hard enough!I enjoyed it, but found it challenging. However the alternative was subjects where you have to write essays, and that's something I'm really not good at!
