Any literature that is particularly helpful or anything of the sort?

Since I don't know ActionScript I don't know of any books but I suggest going to the bookstore and reading the first couple of pages for a few (or, alternatively, downloading a few and doing the same). Some technical books can be written in a way that will knock you out. Aside from that, I suggest our tutorial section here on CodeCall.

Online tutorials are the best way to learn basics and they are free.

lynda.com, the best way. Its not free, but you could have a 7-day free pass. It tells you almost everything about actionscript.
