I taught myself C and C++ from my father's old college textbooks, which were written ten years before I was born. I never took a real programming class before college, either. Thanks to those books and some others I got from the local library, I was able to get an internship programming for Cisco after my freshman year in college. So yes, if you put your mind to it, you can definitely pull it off.

And you have one more advantage than I did - I didn't have the Internet.

I learned from books as well. I took a couple beginner classes, and a lot of math in college :)
Programming is a branch of mathematics.

In short, you can teach yourself anything if you have the drive to do it.

mathemathical analysis (equations and stuff), logics and discrete mathematics (probablitites, algorithms and similar stuff) is a good foundation. then it's just to learn whatever language you wish. those math parts isn't needed at start either, even though understanding of equations will help a lot.

Welcome to codeCall! Yes, I believe the programming you learn in school can be obtained from reading books. I also believe what is taught in school should even be continually expanded by reading books.

Just don't do what I did (if you can help it) and make sure those books aren't older than you are. ;)

Welcome to CodeCall. If you are willing to put the time and effort into it, go for it. You definitely can learn from books. Your still young, you could also get some classes in a community college. :)
