My immediate suggestion would be to not try to use dreamweaver with PHP+MySQL. It sounds like a great way to give yourself a headache.

when I'm working in windows I use Dreamweaver in combination with Wampserver
I store my site project in the WWW folder of wampserver, and than I can test it by hitting the preview button
why would it give you a headache? ;)

Dreamweaver is amazing for php & MySQL. CS4 even has a neat little tool called live view, you can test your website like its in a browser plus live code wich shows you the code that your page is generating so that you don't have to keep right clicking to view source every time you make a change.
I agree that it sucks if you use the auto code but it works great for FTP especialy on a team it allows check in and check out. It also keeps things extremly organized.
I use Dreamweaver with Zend CE running on 8080 or coupled with my paid hosting, it works great.
I don't understand what you meant by gelping seres.
