What does everything think about this OS announcement? I think it will probably be based on Linux, if not directly from Ubuntu (considering they already have their internal Google OS).

I hope they don't include Mono.

Why wouldn't it just be Android + Chrome?

There has been speculation of Android becoming a full fledged OS since its conception. Chrome OS very well may be Android with Chrome.

Id probably try it out - google is taking over the world tho lol

Im always up for trying cool OS's especially ones based for internet use - since thats my primary job - I just want it to support all major browsers including IE so I can do some tests and such without installing weird programs.

It will be hard but I think Google has the money and influence to do it, if anyone does.

I would actually be very happy if a free OS was the dominating one. Once it got a good percent nobody would purchase one. More apps would be available and more widely used.

Do you think it is possible though? Millions and billions of dollars have been invested by companies into Windows infrastructures.

But investors got a return since users purchased it. Now google who is richer than money who just wants people to do a stupid search is investing in it lol.

Interesting points. If it is based on Linux, hasn't it already been proven that Linux failz (as per mass adoption goes, the OS is great).

Google has a very interesting outlook on the operating system.

we're announcing a new project that's a natural extension of Google Chrome
An operating system is an extension of a browser?

The majority of the people will go with windows. It is easy and familuar for them and verry shiny. Also as some one said before there is alreay a lot of buisnesses who have so much invested in windows it would be stupid of them to change it now. I think the google Os will fail. maybe good fornetbooks thou sence they are mainly for internet.
