Working as a programmer your body isn't very active during your day job. Typing only burns about 29 calories per hour, if that. You can find the exact number here: How many calories do you burn during Typing, electric, manual or computer

Keep in mind, that is typing constantly for one hour, not here and there for 5-10 minutes. My point is, programmers can become unhealthy fairly easy. Once age sets in, so can the pounds!

To counter this I do three forms of exercising:
 • Ride a back for 40 Minutes per day
 • Walk 1 mile around the track at work
 • Swim

I've rode a stationary bike for 40 minutes for many months, if not an entire year now. I do that everyday and it also gives me 40 minutes to read so I exercise my mind as well. Walking at work allows me to get away and also gives me the benefit of seeing new scenery while being alone with my thoughts. My wife and I also have bicycles that we often ride around various parks on the weekend.

For anyone interested, I wrote a blog about this as well: http://forum.codecal...-exercises.html

What do you do for exercise?

Took the test...
Weight:141.095848(pounds)

Height:70.4724409(inches)

Age:19 (years)

Sex:Male

Calories Burned: 36 calories per hour

So I burn more while typing or how does this result affect yours(or the average programmer)?

I do mostly jogging and weight training, and some other stuff occasionally (like playing football). As basically everyone who's tried it says: It's great and gives your life a true boost :p

Having a GF or Wife has always added pounds to me! This is because of the frequent dates at local restaurants that don't serve the best food and the feeling of uncaring because I am married or had a GF (pre-marriage, of course).

Id have to agree. I think having a girlfriend or wife you might be more "active" but I just dont care about eating that extra bit to finish off the bag since I know I already got the girl lol.

I need to get fit before I can worry about staying fit.

I second this. Though I do run two-three miles a day.

If you can run 2-3 miles a day you are definitely in shape :P

Perhaps. But I have a hard time considering myself "in shape" and overweight at the same time.

Technically im in shape - round is a shape!

So you may not be "in shape" if you run 2-3 miles a day but your "active" so I suppose it depends on the terms you use.
