What do you think is the best distro for a desktop? I liked the overall features of it, what are your best choices for a distribution yet?
Is Ubuntu still the best distribution?

its depends on personal preference and how well you know linux. I prefer Backtrack 4, but it is difficult to use if your new to linux. Ubuntu is still one of the top I believe though.

I'd hate to break it to you, but Backtrack 4 is Ubuntu with some fancy tools installed.

And Ubuntu is based on Debian. Does that mean Debian and Ubuntu are the same, nope. Ubuntu is just Debian with fancy tools installed.

Nothing is original. Everyone comes from one fundamental building block. This is how things work.
I would say Ubuntu Desktop is a nice Linux (or if you prefer it as Debian) distrust among others on the open source & free market. The community is larger and has been on the ground for several years. As we see, the support is very active (forum).
There is nothing really the best. I most of the time find XP more user friendly because it has been with me for many years but I do have Ubuntu installed on my old laptop which I plan to use it at college campus once in a while since I don't think I need a laptop everyday.
I say it's a very good distribution but there is way too much for me to learn about Linux and Debian. I am still a beginner....

True, but it takes a little more than sudo apt-get install on a fresh installation of Debian to mirror a fresh installation of Ubuntu. However doing a sudo apt-get install aircrack-ng aircrack airsnort and you just about have BackTrack4.

I would venture and say Ubuntu is the best Linux OS for newbies. It works well with a lot of different Hardware and is easy for Windows users to grasp.

I know its based off of ubuntu, I was just saying it would be a little more difficult considering you would actually have to know how to run things from the console(ei. how to set up your internet and sound). I was not trying to say its the hardest thing to do.

Each person has their favorite distro. My favorite is Linux Mint which is based on Ubuntu.
