how to compile source kernel

Hi

I would like to know how to compile the source kernel in redhat hat enterprise linux 4 .
I tried lot of times. it's not succeeded

There is a tool in Redhat for that. You need the kernel source first:

# rpm -q kernel-source

This will query the db to determine if you have it. If not, install it from your CD. After you have that installed locate xconfig and run that. You can use the locate command or find command to find it.

xconfig is graphical and will walk you through the process.

I don't think that Ubuntu is RedHat, do I don't think that can be done in that way...

But I think you can still compile the kernel of any os, Red hat or not.. right?
