This is probably a lame post but I find that no matter what I do to secure my box, I'm paranoid about being hacked. It seems that the more I secure it, the more paranoid I am. If I have any kind of thought that the server has been hacked, I will spend hours upon hours going through logs and reading everything until I realize that I'm just over reacting to something as simple as a brute force attempt. I make backups and such, so I know I have my clients data if something happens and the server is compromised, I can rebuild the box and restore their data, but still, it causes me a great deal of anxiety. Does anyone else have this issue?

Well, I hate being paranoid and I think that Linux is a pretty secure box even without any counter measures installed, so it's just overreacting I suppose:)

Yeah, I figured. I'm just paranoid. Or are they really out to get me? (just kidding!)

For a public server with clients I would. I don't have this but if I did..... Have you ever been hacked before?

Someone accessed one of my webservers, put some kind of phishing site on there, that they were driving people to. I don't even recall now how it happened. It was a while ago. I ended up just closing up that account and patching the others. I'm pretty sure it was through some vulnerability that didn't get patched through cpanel/whm updates. So I am extra careful now. Well, I SHOULD be anyways. :-)

I've had that happen before except through Joomla! rather than cpanel/whm. Joomla! seems to have a ton of security flaws in it.

I'll take that into consideration when playing around with Joomla!. Thanks!

I think a certain level of paranoia is healthy to be honest.

The best thing you can do is just lock down everything to the best of your ability and if an issue comes up, then just address it. No use losing any sleep over the "possibility" of an attack.

I don't think we can live peacefully if we are paranoid. We have to trust. The security will sometime compromised or a breach may happen but, we just cannot afford to be paranoid..

When it comes to the internet and OS security, paranoia is your friend! My church's computer got put into a restart loop by a virus/worm. Weak security = data loss and wasted time. There are bad people on the internet. You should pay attention to security.

That said, Linux is more secure than Windows, and is much easier to make much more secure than Windows.
