You don't really need to purchase anything in Linux.
1) Deactivate all services you don't need
2) Install a firewall for free. There are tons available.
3) Use password rules for your users
4) Require that your users change their password every xx days.

The free firewall is a good point. I purchased one very a long time ago and did not realize until afterwards how many excellent free ones are out there

Which free one did you purchase? There are also hardware firewalls that are excellent.

You don't need that much extra programs for security. Just make sure you don't activate things you don't use, and watch the ports.

You don't need to purchase many in Linux. You can download APF (free) or CSF (free). I suggest a hardware firewall though.

It depends on your distribution.

How are you able to watch the ports? Is there a special program that can handle this responsibility for you?
