I've tried to compile a list of the most popular Linux OS *desktop* distros that I found here and other websites. I have tried to list them in popularity in descending order, ie from most popular to least, though they make up the most popular Linux ditros.

Cool list. According to DistroWatch.com these are the top 10:

I agree with these lists. Every Linux website out there is raving about Ubuntu.

Never heard of Freespire. Was this the Lindows clone?

Yeah. I tried it, it's nothing special. At first I loved it but started hating it.. the installation was buggy, etc..

Freespire is Linspire (Lindows) "free" edition - and yes it is buggy - funny for something that was supposively based on Debian..

The 1.5 version had many bugs and the installation process was a real pain, the 2.0 is a little better. But for sure I don't want that as my main os.

I like openSUSE and PCLinuxOS a lot. Ubuntu is on the list as well.
