Hello.

I am not sure whether or not this is the right forum to post it in, but I am just wondering if gaming on Linux is better than Windows?

I mean, is performance better? Is the processing and graphics rendering speeds better?

What makes gaming on Linux different than gaming on Windows, besides security and stability? :)

I've never ran any benchmarks to compare but I've always felt the games running smoother on Linux than on Windows.

Hey Jordan and thanks for the response.
Is there still lag? Or is lag something to do with the network connection. :o

Sometimes lag is a term used in networking but can be used in games too, in certain cases.

But I prefer windows for games, the gaming market is better :D

But maybe as windows can take quite some resources, on Linux a game might run better because it will have more free resources, but if you play a game using Wine... you might experience a worse experience that running it on actual Windows.

I think both are great but speaking of the best, I prefer Linux because of the special features.

The thing about Linux is I don't think a lot of mainstream games are compatible with it, but the ones that are are very good.

I think ID was the only mainstream company to ever make games for Linux and Windows and Mac....

id Software is still making computer games. They recently came out with ET:QW, it's not ready for Linux yet though, but it will be in the near future.

@v0id: That game looks really good. I've always been a big fan of Quake. I wonder if they plan on making it for console gaming systems like xBox 360.

They do, also for PS3.

Currently, they're planning to release it both for the xBox360 and PS3 in the U.S. on May 27th, so it will be in a week, if they don't change the release date.

Linux is an overall cleaner system than Windows so I assume games would run better on it.

I think the actual FPS is about the same. I know that graphics drivers (ATI) aren't as good for Linux as they are for Windows.
