I get this error on one of my older Linux Ubuntu installs. Anyone know how to fix it?

Is this the login screen? I mean when it boots and then asks you for username and password?

Have you looked at that file and determined if it is writeable?

Yes, the file was there and I set it to 777. It did not fix it. In the end I just created a new user and this worked fine.
