Anyone know where I can find a list of hardware that is guaranteed to work with Linux?

You will see almost all hardwares work properly with Linux. Usually the installation of open source comes with various add ons with it. You can find updates at a click of a mouse on google or linux

Can anybody suggest me any hardware that does not work properly with Linux? I would like to know because of academic interest and for further research

Winmodems. Printers. Some wifi cards. Full access to videocard features.

The question is not an important one. You can have drivers for almost all hardwares. So you need not worry. ALL you have to do is few mouse clicks and you are there

nadha, you are just wrong. I've got a coworker who will have to compile and install the video driver for his computer by hand if he wants full video support. Winmodems generally do NOT have drivers. Printers frequently don't have drivers. Laptop hardware can be particularly flaky.
