Hey,

I'm pretty new to programming, took two Java classes in college so far (I'm a computer engineering major) and wasn't really a big fan of Java. However, I recently got into PHP. Basically I have been picking my brain constantly to come up with the next big website idea and I figured when I do come up with the idea, I'd better know how to make it. Anyway, I've learned a lot in about two weeks. Made a login system with user profiles, comment system and avatars. Everything's going well, and I'd like to expand my knowledge further. Can anyone suggest any good resources, online or print, that helped you out when you were learning PHP specifically.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I highly suggest "Java: An Introduction to Problem Solving & Programming Fifth Edition" by Walter Savitch and Frank M. Carrano for learning Java. It helped me out a lot for understanding Java.

Anyway, it's good to be part of an active coding community!

Welcome aboard! I'm pretty fond of using Google searches when attempting to work in PHP. Having WAMP server at home has helped a lot, as I can immediately see the effects of code changes.

Hey Baudday, welcome to CodeCall. There are many, many good books on PHP. I've read quite a few. Here are some advanced ones I recommend: Amazon.com: Pro PHP: Patterns, Frameworks, Testing and More: Kevin McArthur: Books , Amazon.com: PHP Objects, Patterns, and Practice, Second Edition: Matt Zandstra: Books , Amazon.com: PHP|Architect's Guide to PHP Design Patterns: Jason E. Sweat: Books . There is also Power PHP Programming which was an excellent read. The Zend Study Guide books were ok but they were at a more beginner level. If you are interested in becoming certified I wrote a blog about that here: http://forum.codecal...e-overkill.html

Hope that helps!

That really does help thanks. I actually have my own LAMP server, so I'm able to try all kinds of stuff, and that's made the learning process fun. I'll definitely look into those books and that post. Thanks.
