Could you explain a bit more what you are doing and why you are frustrated?

Im a bit confused about what your trying to do - maybe post up your current code.

Tutorials might be a bit old but the code has not changed too much.

Online tutorials shouldn't be used for more then a reference if even that. Like you say many are outdated and there is no way for a new programmer or one on beginner level to actually know if the tutorial shows a good way to program. It might even be a "this works I am happy with that" tutorial. The author might himself be a beginner leveled programmer.

If you wish to learn OpenGL download the red&blue books. There is free versions of them but not up to date. This is not a problem because the basics is still the same. The best think to do is to go to amazon search on OpenGL read what people think about the book, buy the book with the best comments and ratings. A book is always better then a 1 page tutorial. Even better then a 10 paged tutorial!
