I am planning to track the actual software usage. So I can see the advertising ROI. Also I will know how users like my software, if they keep using it or not. I know a beta web site providing the tracking service. They provide a 15k DLL bundling with my app for tracking. The DLL is safe. I already scan it by using security tools. They can provide daily usage reports including demographic data.
Do you think this is a good idea?
Is it a good idea to use tracking component?

It depends on how often it calls home, etc. If you are using software that wouldn't normally need to connect to the internet, you're likely to have people blocking it with firewalls, or otherwise questioning whether it's malware.

Going right along with WingedPanther, what ports does the software use? What does it actually access and does it invade any privacy? People really get angry over privacy invasion so it is nice to know what it transmits ahead of time and the ability to present that to your user in the EULA.
Sounds like a neat service, though. What is the website that does this?
