I like McAfee and Norton but I always go with AVG on PCs where I have to pay for AV software, which works well.

Well, depending if you have performance concerns or total protection?

If your an advanced user within the DOS/NT-area you shouldn't have any need for an active antivirus protection; this means you will have to use Common Sense 2010 or simple tools to scan whenever you feel something is wrong.

So to summaries my bad comments...

Advanced users uses
Dual boot Win/Linux + Common Sense 2010
Less experienced users uses
Free antivirus protection....

List of common freeware

Avast

Avira

AVG

Claim

Comodo Internet Security(I recommend)

Etc...
Newbie users uses
Windows with either these antivirus program...
List of common newbie protection

Norton(PIFT.EXE)

Panda antivirus

Kaspersky antivirus(Not bad at all just too common)

McAfee antivirus(Not so good at all just less common)

Etc...

1337 & Pr0 - M0d3
Nod32

So that's how I reason with antivirus protection and etc.

tl;dr - Use Nod32 for full protection(Payware) or use Comodo Internet security for full protection(Freeware).

Main difference would be support and "real life protection".
Thanks for listening :>

Avast is awful, its virus detection is pretty bad. I am using Norton 360 on my computer and it works just fine. I like the backup feature.

AVG having a quite reasonable free license is nice. Kaspersky's usually comes close to top of scientifically rigorous tests I've seen.

Kaspersky excels in virus detection and false positives tests.

I generally use AVG or Comodo.
