I am wanting to design a simple PCB to do various things (operate DC motors for specified times and the like). I understand digital circuits (to a degree) but how do I make the circuit do what I want? I figure you have to have a processor of some sort and program it with assembly or something but I do not understand how VCC and things like that come into play. I guess my question would be how do you build and program simple hardware?

I know there are many resources out there but I need direction on where to start learning and where I should go after that. Ultimately this circuit will end up connected to a computer and operated through an OS but I think that after I make the hardware I just need to make an OS specific driver for it and write a program to interface with the driver. If I am wrong about that please let me know.

Thanks for the help,

DDS

Based on my awareness of what my wife learned in her electronics courses... you need to learn digital electronics. If you are not familiar with circuit design, you're going to have problems.
Programming is a branch of mathematics.
