I just started a programming forum, it's been up for 2 days and we are getting a little impatient about users showing up. I have added the website to many search engine indexes (I know that this can take time) and directories.

The forums is very extensive but i think that when people come and see the total post count at like 6 and users 5, it drives them away and nobody is willing to post just to help out.

I have a specific place for people to come post things that they think I should change on the forum because obviously I am human (well mostly anyways) and I make mistakes.

This is my website

From one programming website to another anyone have any advice for me?

My advice: don't spam. I'll not ban you this time but refrain from spamming forums.

Another piece of advice: don't get discouraged by the non-posting visitors. I was reviewing some of our "members" this morning. I would estimate that 90% of our "members" have never posted.

You have to be a member for 10 days and have 20 posts before you can add a signature.

You may also want to take a look at a blog of mine: Average Age of a Successful Forum | Jordan's Technology Blog

It takes a while before a forum becomes successful. This forum is 3 1/2 years old and still not "successful" (IMO). Also, as WP said, about 90% of the people surfing the web are lurkers and will never contribute to you or your website. I've read of estimates that put contributing members as little as 1% of the Internet population.

Just like with links, there is a posting limit before you can add a signature (to prevent sig spamming).

You should remove it. I deleted it for a reason. If you don't, when I get to a PC I will infract you for spam.

The race is on.. this is exciting. Who will get to the post first, the author or the infractor?

The sooner admin tools are built into CC Mobi the better, eh? -rep
