Unless all your coworkers agree to unionize, being in a union won't do anything for you except take away some of your paycheck. That said, unions tend to place a burden on the company whose employees they represent. Witness A: The big 3 auto companies.

Why are you looking into unions for programmers?

Note: it seems to me that the union you mentioned is... shadey.
