I used to program in VB but at the moment I'm into perl/CGI. I want to do more in C++ but need lots of practice and I'd like to get into PHP but most of the time it's easier to do it in a perl/CGI script rather than spend time learning PHP. I want to get acquainted with as many languages as possible...you know, to have the right tool for the right job. I'm 100% on Ubuntu now. I'm addicted to it. This comment is not intended to start a flame war, BTW. Just my personal preference to work on Linux.

Perl/CGI easier than PHP? Wow, incredible.

Not really easier IF you know both languages. But if you can do it in one you already know quickly why spend time learning another way if you get the same result. Maybe it didn't come out the way I meant before.
I have never done anything in PHP. I started out in VB, then jumped straight into perl because of a co-worker who was strictly perl and c++. I figured at the time I would take advantage of being around an advanced programmer and learn something new and I never bothered learning PHP. If he'd been using PHP instead, it probably would be PHP that I prefer and not perl. If I was around my uncle more, who programs in Lisp for use with AutoCAD and VB6, it's likely that I'd get into Lisp a little just to learn something new.
Anyway, I've decided to get into PHP anyway in the next few weeks. I may end up preferring it instead...who knows.
Hope what I said makes more sense now. :)
