Ehm, I don't get it.
Just a black picture with an orange message saying: It's now safe to turn off your computer.

Well, if you saw your task manager while doing it you would see the surprise :)

Your supposed to check the task manager, the picture will stress cpu, if not hyperthread is enabled... just a funny thing !

My computer didn't slow down at all, but the cpu started acting up quite fast. The total physical memory went down to about 300,000 when I closed the page.
I don't see how that happens?

It's because it is a massive GIF file. The actual file size is very small, because of the compression GIF uses (which is different from the type of compression that JPEG uses). However, the image is large, which accounts for the CPU time.

Most accurate, while having hyperthreading enabled you will see how the cpu will work "perfectly", it will draw every pixel without bothering the rest of the OS. However if your using an older CPU aka Solo core, you might experience a sudden "lag". Just a small stress test for your guys cpu. I have some other stress test, but most are JS or flash versions. I found this lighter since it was just a high compressed gif picture....

I have a single core Intel processor running at a mere 1.66 Ghz, and I experienced no lag or anything.
A better test is to render a super-high quality image using the whole processor. With a single core the image will render from top to bottom, while with four cores the rendering will start in four different places, meaning the image is rendered four times as quickly.
Thanks to CompuServe GIF's LZW compression (named after the initials of the three people who invented it) an image huge in dimensions can be tiny in file size.
