Ok, so I've been thinking about university recently and I decided Software Engineering would be more suited to me, as opposed to a Computer Science degree. However after a talk with my tutor today he seems to think a degree in computer science would suit me more..

so.. here's the kinda degree I want.

I want to learn to program, first and foremost. I was under the impression a degree in software engineering would contain alot more programming but according to my tutor he says it's the other way around, with computer science degrees teaching more programming.

What do I want to program? I'd like to see myself working for a software company, making applications, although I'd like to see myself one day programming games, but obviously I wouldn't be able to do that straight out of university, so I'd like to do a degree that would set me on the right track, and be able to get me a decent job in software developing for a few years.

Can anyone shed some light on the matter? Perhaps explain the differences between the two degrees and advise which one would suit me more?

Thanks.

From what I can tell, different schools handle the issue in different ways. Usually, there is Software Engineering, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering. SE tends to be theory/design heavy, while CE is hardware heavy, but they all involve coding to one degree or another. I would look at the courses for each major and see what matches your interests.
Programming is a branch of mathematics.
