Well if you've seen any of my other threads, you'll know I'm trying to figure out what to do in programming. Well I'll start off with that I'm pretty young like 13ish... And well I learned XHTML as part of my school curriculum, and well I really liked it. It's been a little over a year, and I've gone beyond the school's curriculum. Well XHTML was great, but I really feel that I need to move on to something else now. I've looked around to things like PHP, but I need someone to be using the site or else it's pointless, without assignments in school, I really have no use for programming... Except I really enjoyed it, and want to do it more. I just don't know what to do next... I've always been wanting to develop apps for the iPhone and either use them for personal use or distribute through Cydia. I'm trying to figure out a way to do it, but I have to learn Obj. C to do that. Anyway I'm looking for a language that I can practice and use, and I'm looking for something a little bit above HTML and JS. Anyway eventually I want to work my way up to Assembly, but that's a very long way away. Anyway if I wasn't clear on what I was asking sorry, I'll clarify.
sorry if im getting annoying

I'd start on Objective-C, since that will take you directly to one of your goals.

I guess that makes sense, but other than that, what does you think?

I programmed for years, just for the fun of it. I found challenges to code just because it was fun. As far as PHP, if you make a site that is of interest to people, they will use it. Don't worry too much about trying to attract people, just do stuff you think is interesting. There are a few sites out there that have been created by people talking about what they like, and after a while they reached that critical threshold of information where people started coming like crazy. This site is one example.
If you don't love coding, and code for the love of it, then you may want to do something else. I have four passions: math, programming, teaching, and my wife. Currently, I spend most of my time on my wife and programming, but I write tutorials here to satisfy the crave to teach, and math permeates everything I do in coding.
One thing you'll discover: if you know JS inside and out, picking up other languages will be pretty simple.

Ok well thank you for that bit of advice. I guess I should study up on JS a bit more, I just meant by the whole no one is gonna use it, it was just hard to come up with things to make because I had no demand, in school, they give us an assignment and we figure out how to do it. I guess I kinda answered my own question though about the whole Obj C, because that's what's going to help me make the things that I want to make, but thanks for the JS tip, I'll start that this weekend.

What about C and C++ should I know those? What are they even used for, because I've heard a lot about them, and just wondering if I should learn them. Like I said, eventually in a years or so I want to work my way up to Assembly the real core of programming above binary... So yeah...

Objective C is roughly halfway between C and C++ in features. Mac is the only platform I'm aware of that uses Objective-C heavily. When you get to your 3rd language or so, you realize they tend to be quite similar. C++ will introduce you to the majority of the programming concepts you could ever want to know.

Ok well sounds like I'll have to learn Objective C for the iPhone, but then I'll probably be able to pick up C++ quicker. Ok, that was helpful thanks again.

Well, I develop a lot of applications for my own personal use (things that you wouldn't find on the internet.. because they might be useless for the general public, because they are problem specific) but that doesn't mean (just because no one else views it) that you have to quit programming!
I have my website FindItGlobally.com - Business Directory and I've done a lot of html, JS, and PHP.. and from time to time I like to improve it.. although it get's very little traffic! I don't care.. I do that for my own knowledge and as a working project for my CV. In fact last summer I got a job (summer job) thanks to that website! So that's enough!
