Hi guys,

Hope this is in the right forum!
I have a need to find out machine specs from a bootable usb device and record them into a text file on the same usb device.
The info I require from the machines is as follows:

CPU - type and speed
RAM - Total memory size
HDD - Total capacity
Serial number - if this is available in BIOS
VGA - Size of memory on card
optical drive - type (ie cd, cdrw, dvd, dvdrw etc) - this is not too important
and possily some more ifo if I can get it.

The question is how can I go about obtaining the info without booting the machine into windows. I have seen prgrams that give me all the info I need from within windows but I don't want to have to boot them up to get the info.

If I have posted this in the wrong place then could someone direct me to another place where I may be able to get help

thanks

john

Simple solution: Linux on a pen drive.

and is there then a program I can use to extrat only the info I want?
and can I make it autorun so that all I have to do is insert the pen drive, switch on the machine (mke it boot from pen drive obviously) and for it to write the info I need to the drive and then display a message to say it's done and then I can turn off the machine and throw it away basically

ps i have never used linux!!!! :( but happy to learn :)

You can probably get that information to extract automatically. I'm not sure where all the info is read from.
