Could you guys please help me out a little? Well I have never been able to decide on which programming language I want to stay and focus on, but I ended up buying 2 books, one on HTML/CSS and one on VB2008.

I'm a newb to programming and don't know any languages, except for a tiny bit of HTML and VB.NET

But I still can't decide. Visual seems too easy, it's as if I'm working on Macromedia Flash and the VB code are the animations I'm inserting into the project. But on the other hand even though I love the idea of learning C++, it seems complicated, especially if it's the first language I'm learning.
So please give me some advice on these two... I want to stick closer to applications than web design and have fun while learning because I'm lazy and get pulled away into doing something else easily.

Oh and I have to learn C++ from web tutorials only, those 2 books cost me £50 and I'd also like to make good use of them.

And maybe there's some other good languages you guys know that might work out for me, but at the moment it looks like it's one of these two.
Help greatly appreciated.

If you're a newbie, then VB.NET is a good choice, before moving on to C++ eventually.

There is a free book: Thinking in C++ by Bruce Eckel. His current version isn't free, but you can download the free one in PDF format and basically have a textbook. Once you get into it, C++ isn't nearly as bad as you think, it just looks more cryptic.
Programming is a branch of mathematics.

Hmm, thanks. Well I dunno guess I'll try to get into C++ and actually learn some.

I say go with C++. VB is a bad language to learn proper syntax and if you get use to it, it will just make C that much harder.

Dude there are so many warez on the internet.

Just go download Sams Teach Yourself in 21 Days (C++), and get C++ The Programming Language Third Edition. You'll be good to go.

If you have any decency in you, though, you will buy the book at the normal price.
