Hey everyone!

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced any types of injuries related to typing/computer use.

I have problems such as sore wrists, elbows and shoulders after typing, even while attempting to sit or set up my desk ergonomically.

So for those of you who program for a living, or need to type many hours a day, how do you avoid such problems?

I have/had problems with my wrists. When it started happening it would hurt for the remainder of the day and I couldn't hold a book open without excessive pain. Ironigcally, I got on Google and learned proper ergonomics. Basically, I found how to keep pressure from a central point (my wrists) and distribute that along my entire forearm. In other words, I moved the mouse back so that my entire forearm rests on the table and I keep my hands hovering over the keyboard rather than resting on the keyboard when typing.

My knuckles ache at times, but I'm pretty sure that's just arthritis trying to set in.

Jordan, my mouse is currently just a few inches forward from the edge of my mouse tray, and I rest my hands on the bottom of the keyboard while I type. So if I understood you correctly, I woud benefit from moving my mouse forward and keeping my hands hovering?

Thanks for the replies!

That is the same way I had mine when they began to hurt. Doing as I suggested may help you as it did me.

I am fit and healthy, so no problems here. :)

Although I sometimes get injured when Jordan types "-rep". I fall off my chair in surprise and bang my head on the floor.

My mouse is really far back, in fact behind my screen. When I type, I keep my right hand on the enter and shift keys, and type with my left hand hovering, even though I'm right-handed. I've never had any problems.

Not basically injuries when it comes to typing and computer related things. Its just numbness of my fingers because of too much work and less rest.
